We welcomed the guests into the tea room before heading into the main hall where Alan conducted the white light.
We began the investigation without equipment and began to call out. A number of guests had chosen to sit on the main staircase and they felt as though someone was moving up and down the staircase amongst them. Shadows were reported, as well as taps and movement on the floor above. Some of the guests also said they could hear what sounded like two people having a distant conversation.
Other guests reported sensing someone in the far corner of the room and taps were heard from this area also. Everyone agreed that the energy in the room felt feminine and we asked out for the lady of the house or any of her staff who may have taken care of her, though we weren’t getting any direct responses to our questions.
The team took a break and one of the guests told Kate that she’d been picking up on the spirit of a little boy in the main hall. He looked like he was fresh out of the bath, with his hair combed impeccably and a small scar on his cheek. She said he was wearing pinstriped short pyjamas and he would often run in and out of a study area in the house as this was one of the areas he was allowed in. Lord Fife’s study was directly next to the main hall where we had been calling out.
After a break, the team split into two groups. Chris and Kate took the top floor and Alan and Sonia’s group took the ground floor and bedrooms.

The group made themselves comfortable and we set some equipment out around the space. Rob placed a spirit box in the doorway to the main corridor and two k2’s and a cat ball were placed around us. A REM bear was placed in the smaller room leading to the next corridor.
We began to ask the spirits to come forward and the REM bear activated several times. Again, this was not in direct response to questions being asked but guests felt like there was a male presence who kept moving between the two opposite corridors and peering in at us. The music box at the opposite side of the attic also triggered three times, as though someone was coming towards us. Guests using spirit box apps were picking up several male names in quick succession and we were also getting k2 hits at the same time.
We began to pick up on a female in this area and it was felt she had become pregnant following an assault. She had somehow lost the baby and she had died (potentially maliciously) shortly afterwards. We felt that the oppressive male energy was potentially looking for her but couldn’t enter the main loft space for some reason.
Chris took the men of the group into one of the side corridors and Kate stayed in the main loft with the ladies to see if the spirit of the woman would be more forthcoming. As soon as the men left the area, the energy changed and became more peaceful, as though the spirit felt more at ease without the men around. Our area became quiet at this point, though we continued to call out until the men rejoined us. We moved onto the landing area that made several people feel a little uncomfortable and Chris used a spirit app to see if we could get spirit to speak to us through that. We also placed a k2 meter at the bend of the staircase to see if anyone was walking up and down it.
We began to hear German words coming through the spirit box, including the number 7. Amy, one of the national trust staff confirmed that one of the gentlemen of the house spoke fluently in German but he was very unlikely to have welcomed us into the house as he was notoriously grumpy. The K2 responded several times during this session and Rob said it felt as though it was lighting up as though it was mirroring someone’s pattern of speech. We attempted a couple of EVP sessions in the loft, though nothing unusual was recorded.
The group moved into the panelled room and a large portion of the group felt extremely uncomfortable in this area. Amy explained that the floors and also walls of this part of the building were very uneven due to age, and all of the electricals for the house were directly below this room. Was our discomfort caused by spirit or by the natural atmosphere and electromagnetics in this room? Despite spending some time in here, no responses were received at all.
Kate took the team into Lady Fife’s drawing room and everyone felt much more comfortable in this area. We were very short on time at this point though we asked if Lady Fife was with us and whether she minded us joining her. We did get minor k2 spikes in response to us asking these questions and guests said they could see a shadow moving around the wall in the corner where they were sitting. This area also became very cold. It was felt that this may have been Lady Fife wishing us a good evening.
As we had run out of time, we thanked Lady Fife for again welcoming us into her beautiful home. Activity throughout the night had been a little more subdued than on previous investigations, but the night certainly did not disappoint.
SERVANTS ATTIC CORRIDOR
Equipment used - K2 meter, spirit talker app and senses.
After Kate had hatched an idea of the gentleman of the group in one area and the ladies in another. Once Chris had taken the gents into the corridor and got ourselves settled, we asked for the gentleman that had presented himself to a guest as a shadow in the main attic room through in this area. No response had been made so we then proceeded to place a k2 meter in the far end door frame that led out to the stairs. We used the name Edward from when the group was together and addressed the situation with him using his powers to get a maid pregnant and to let him know what he'd done was wrong but the group wasn't going to judge, Edward seemed to then respond with responses on the K2 meter. Responses spiked up to orange when we asked the question did he regret his decision, was he sorry and did he see the lady in question still along with was he remorseful. Taps, also along the corridor and few guests also heard what sounded like a breath sound. The K2 responses were on demand and just truly astounded the group. A few words also came through on the guests spirit talker app which had relevance to this gentleman which we're choke, I held and worked.
The feeling in the corridor then changed and on response again the K2 spiked when guests asked if he was presenting himself as shadow form as he had been seen across the roof and by the door. Inside the corridor went very dark and the guests soon realized that the gentleman wasn't remorseful in what he had done and the K2 spiked right the way up to red.
What really intrigued us all, after that spike, the K2 meter fell absolutely still and for the next 5 minutes, the questions from the gentleman in the room had no responses whatsoever from the K2 at all.
What was making the K2 spiked and why did it all of a sudden stop? Was it Edward manipulating the equipment?
We all then headed back to the main attic space as all fell quiet and no more responses had on the k2 meter.

Sonya & Alan’s group
Male smoking room
We placed a cat ball and 2 glow balls on the fireplace and a cat ball on a corner chair. A K2 bear was placed on table centre room with a Music box outside the door. We asked questions about the room – was it used by the males in the house / smoking room? There were reactions from the K2 bear and the Cat ball on the mantlepiece at the same time. We also received some reactions from a cat ball and the K2 bear to questions about the type of visitors/ business conversations .
One guest felt that the person was involved in business – linked to ‘ slave trade’. Some guests felt that there may have been a link to cotton/sugar business. Alan activated the light reactive balls and placed these on the mantle piece asked if spirit could move or interact with these but nothing was received.
Bedroom with single bed and small chapel room
A K2 bear was placed on a chair by the door and a cat ball on the bedside table. 2 guests elected to sit in the small room set up as a small chapel/ prayer room. They used a set of dowsing rods between them as the guests asked questions in the bedroom. Guests felt there was a female presence, possibly an older lady / spinster. The K2 bear and Cat ball both reacted to questions about ‘ is this your room?’ Cat ball further lights up to questions about ‘were you religious? Was faith important to you?’ The guests in the small chapel were getting some yes responses on the rods, confirming the cat ball and bear responses.
One of the guests felt her chair she had been sitting in had been moved. We asked the spirit if this was her bed and if if she passed here The guests with the dowsing rods received a ‘no’ response.
Larger bedroom with mannequin with black evening dress
Guests felt the presence of a boy who was an odd job servant/ boy- wearing shorts/ plus fours and had a scar on his face and the K2 gave a small flash to this. There were sounds of multiple creaks under the floor boards next to the door and bed where Alan and a guest were stood. We asked about the dress in the corner stating it was a beautiful dress and the K2 again gave a small flash. Guests asked about dressing for dinner and if they liked dancing and the K2 flashed.
As this room is quite large, we decided to perform a human pendulum. One of the male guests appeared to be swaying as if he had been chosen by spirit so we formed a circle and the male guest stood in the centre. Spirit told us they were an older female. She said she had owned the black dress and liked to dance and entertain. We couldn’t get a response about what type of music she liked but when asked if she preferred to be in the London party scene, she gave a big yes. We asked if there was a painting of her in the room and there was no response. She did confirm that there was a portrait of her in the house.
Sitting room
We used an SP7 Spiritbox to try and connect with spirit. As the guests were spread around this room we received the word ‘Israel’ and this came through several times and was clearly heard by all in the room. We questions around any links to Israel and the word Germans and music came through. We also received the name ‘Ruth’ but a lot of the words seem to be coming through in German. This was extremely strange. Were there any links to the Jewish community or Germany, possibly the Second World War?
Attic area
We set up an ‘Estes method experiment’ Using an SP7 Spiritbox linked to Bluetooth headphones. One of our meal guests sat in the chair and we quietly ask questions to test if he could hear us, which he could not. When we asked the name of the spirit we received the names ‘Mary’ followed by ‘William’. Again, the words ‘Israel’ and ‘Germans’ came through multiple times. The guest stated that he thought a lot of words were coming through in German and that it was a male spirit trying to communicate. We decided to end this experiment and choose another guest to do a second experiment.
Another male guest sat in the chair with the headphones on. On asking the spirits name, again we received the name ‘William’. This was followed by the word ‘father’ and as if in confirmation again, the word ‘father’. We then received the word ‘ship’ followed by the word ‘river’. Alan asked where he was from and immediately we received the word ‘York’.Spirit was pushed and asked to name the river and we received the word ‘Ouse’. This is actually the main river in York so that was extremely interesting activity. The next word that came out was ‘Mersey’. When we asked what the link was to Mersey, we received ‘cargo’ and then ‘cotton’.
Alan heard movement in the corridor so placed light reactive balls in the corridor inviting a child or children to interact with these. 2 guests moved to this area to watch the balls. When asked later on if they had picked anything up, they felt that there was something in the corridor a child – that the space had shadow/ movement and at points became darker blocking out the light from one of the balls on the floor.
4 guests then tried a OUIJA board session, but there was no activity. For the last few minutes in the attic, we tried a crystal and board session. Spirit came through and when asked to spell their name the letters R, U and T came through. They said they were 18 years old when they died and when asked what time period they were from ,it appeared to be from centuries ago but as this could not be confirmed we closed the board down and headed back to.
Although quiet at times, Nunnington Hall gave us some interesting activity to share and discuss and we can build upon this when we return for a next event.

We set up an ‘Estes method experiment’ Using an SP7 Spiritbox linked to Bluetooth headphones. One of our meal guests sat in the chair and we quietly ask questions to test if he could hear us, which he could not. When we asked the name of the spirit we received the names ‘Mary’ followed by ‘William’. Again, the words ‘Israel’ and ‘Germans’ came through multiple times. The guest stated that he thought a lot of words were coming through in German and that it was a male spirit trying to communicate. We decided to end this experiment and choose another guest to do a second experiment.
Another male guest sat in the chair with the headphones on. On asking the spirits name, again we received the name ‘William’. This was followed by the word ‘father’ and as if in confirmation again, the word ‘father’. We then received the word ‘ship’ followed by the word ‘river’. Alan asked where he was from and immediately we received the word ‘York’.Spirit was pushed and asked to name the river and we received the word ‘Ouse’. This is actually the main river in York so that was extremely interesting activity. The next word that came out was ‘Mersey’. When we asked what the link was to Mersey, we received ‘cargo’ and then ‘cotton’.
Alan heard movement in the corridor so placed light reactive balls in the corridor inviting a child or children to interact with these. 2 guests moved to this area to watch the balls. When asked later on if they had picked anything up, they felt that there was something in the corridor a child – that the space had shadow/ movement and at points became darker blocking out the light from one of the balls on the floor.
4 guests then tried a OUIJA board session, but there was no activity. For the last few minutes in the attic, we tried a crystal and board session. Spirit came through and when asked to spell their name the letters R, U and T came through. They said they were 18 years old when they died and when asked what time period they were from ,it appeared to be from centuries ago but as this could not be confirmed we closed the board down and headed back to.
Although quiet at times, Nunnington Hall gave us some interesting activity to share and discuss and we can build upon this when we return for a next event.
